ADMISSION PROCESS

 APPLICATION

The application process begins with the submission of an application form, certified birth certificate, immunization records, Pastor Recommendation Form, and Teacher Recommendation Form, along with the $30.00 non-refundable fee.  The goal of the process is to help you understand Faith Christian School and its distinction as a Christian School.  Campus tours and / or classroom observations are available and, in fact, encouraged.  Tours and information interviews are best scheduled in advance in order to guarantee the availability of some one to speak with you personally.  Advance notice is required for classroom observations.  We encourage classroom visits for students in grades 3 – 12.  This visit can help your student get a feel for FCS also.  A member of our present student body is assigned to go through the day with your child to act as a guide and answer questions about FCS from a student perspective.  If your child is in grades 6 – 12, a schedule will be generated based on courses in which your child is currently enrolled.

EVALUATION

Once we have received the application for admission and all required forms, the request for student records must be completed for process.  This request needs to be given to the school your child presently attends.  For high school students, the request needs to include a list of courses currently being taken.  Once these are received, you will be contacted by a staff member to schedule the screening.  ALL forms should be mailed directly to FCS, Attention:  Registrar.  No testing will be administrated until the application, immunization records, and birth certificate have been returned.

All students applying for grades K-12 are screened for admission.  The purpose of this screening is to help determine if Faith Christian School will be able to meet your child’s educational needs.  It also assures appropriate placement in the school program.  There is a $40 charge for these screenings.  Details about the screening are as follows:

K5:      A developmental screening for placement is required in Kindergarten and grade 1.  The developmental screen is used to evaluate these young children in the areas of fine and gross motor skills, speech and language, as well as social and emotional maturity.  Following the evaluation, an appointment will be made with you to discuss the results and placement recommendation.

Grades 1 – 12:  General testing for placement is required of all new students in grades 2 – 12.  Your child will be given a four part admissions test covering ability, mathematics, language, and writing.  At the secondary level this test will be course specific.  Following the testing, an appointment will be made with you to discuss those results and placement recommendation.

All New Students:  An individual family / student interview is required of all families seeking admission to Faith Christian School.  This interview will involve at least one, preferably both, parents, the student applicant(s), and the Headmaster.  Discussion will center on the student’s desire to attend FCS, general standing with the student’s current school, and student/parent testimony of a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  The results of the admissions screening will also be shared at that time.

ACCEPTANCE

Enrollment for returning FCS students is held annually in February.  Present students and new students from present families receive priority for registration during this time.  After this period, new applicants will be accepted.

Following the testing, each new student’s test scores, interviews, transcripts, discipline record, and recommendations will be evaluated by the administration and Board.  If the student’s needs can be met by the school and the parents affirm their support for the school’s Christian educational philosophy, an acceptance letter will be sent.  A Commitment Form must be written seven (7) days.  During that time, space in the class is reserved.  If the student is not registered in that seven (7) day period, the student’s name will be removed from the list and any space given to the next student on the waiting list.
